For one special evening, Fiesta de Vida brings Brownsville’s historic Old City Cemetery to life through music, dance, storytelling, tradition, and remembrance.

You can expect:

Mariachi musicians and traditional dancers will perform throughout the evening. Food and drinks will be available, and guides will lead tours through the cemetery, sharing the stories of those laid to rest there and the history of Brownsville they helped shape.

A community ofrenda will invite guests to leave photos, notes, or small offerings in memory of loved ones.

Good to Know:

The celebration and tours take place throughout the cemetery after dark, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Catrina and Catrín attire is encouraged.

The Old City Cemetery has served as the final resting place for generations of Brownsville families since 1853. When we gather there, we honor those who came before us while celebrating their lives, their stories, and the traditions that continue through us.

Fiesta de Vida Weekend Continues:

1-Mile Mariposa Family Run

The celebration of life continues Sunday morning at Market Square with the 1-Mile Mariposa Family Run, a family-friendly run and community gathering centered on remembrance, art, and the people we carry with us.

Market Square is home to artist Robert Mendoza’s Mariachis y Mariposas mural, unveiled in 2019. The mariposa—a symbol of transformation, remembrance, and continuing connection—provides a meaningful setting to close Fiesta de Vida weekend together as a community.

When: Sunday, October 25 at 8 AM
