Originally constructed in 1877 by merchant Manuel Alonso, the Historic Alonso Building is one of downtown Brownsville’s most distinctive architectural landmarks. Featuring French and Spanish influences, soaring ceilings, and a lush courtyard, the restored building has evolved from a mercantile gathering place into a vibrant venue for exhibitions, performances, receptions, and cultural events. Today, the Alonso Building serves as a unique setting where history, architecture, and the arts converge within the heart of the Mitte Cultural District.
