Historic Alonso Building

A beautifully restored historic landmark that hosts exhibitions, performances, and community events within one of Brownsville’s most iconic buildings

Originally constructed in 1877 by merchant Manuel Alonso, the Historic Alonso Building is one of downtown Brownsville’s most distinctive architectural landmarks. Featuring French and Spanish influences, soaring ceilings, and a lush courtyard, the restored building has evolved from a mercantile gathering place into a vibrant venue for exhibitions, performances, receptions, and cultural events. Today, the Alonso Building serves as a unique setting where history, architecture, and the arts converge within the heart of the Mitte Cultural District.
